Please Note: Students are placed in classes with their age peers, usually with only two or three grade levels per classroom.

Travel the USA: Traverse the United States, dis- covering its mountains, forests, and plains; its Great Lakes, sea coasts, deserts, and swamps; its people, many cultures, and history. Explore the states through creative, interdisciplinary activities involving math, science, literature, art, drama, and cooking! Grades PK-K

Science Puzzlers: Challenge the laws of physics and chemistry! Defy gravity, melt stuff in cold air, make a ball fall uphill, and explore other amazing scientific phenomena. Grades 1-2

Aquatic Biology: Create aquatic eco-systems. Explore tide pools, coral reefs, and oceans. Investigate marine life, from prehistoric sharks to living aquatic organisms. Grades 1-3

The Art of Math: Investigate geometric patterns, both 2-D and 3-D. Create tessellations and Escher-like drawings. Build 3-D models from a variety of materials. Grades 1-4

Rocketry and Space Exploration: Test principles of aerodynamics with models of your own design. Study NASA's space missions. Build and launch bottle rockets. Grades 3-8

"Improv" Your Writing: Use improvised scenes as a basis for creative writing as you work to improve and improvise your writing! A book of final writing projects will be sent to each participant. Grades 3-8

Theater Club: Experience the exhilarating world of live theater! Develop characters as you play theater games and rehearse skits, culminating in a performance for family and friends. Grades 1-8

Princesses, Knights, and Dragons: Discover your favorite princesses, bravest knights, and their adventures with dreadful dragons. Create your own stories and fairy tales. Grades 1-2

Medieval Mania: Immerse yourself in medieval history and legend. Walk into the age of knights and wizards. What kind of castle would you envision and design? Create your own coat-of-arms. Celebrate with a medieval feast! Grades 3-8

Drawing from Inside Out and Upside Down: How do you draw what you see? Train your eyes to perceive accurately shapes, relationships, and perspectives. Discover the math in art with ratios and proportions. Experiment with different types of drawings. Grades 1-8

The Language of Organic Chemistry: The first step in understanding the science and art of organic chemistry is to know how to name com- pounds from their structures and how to draw or build compounds from their names. Using mole- cular models, build a variety of organic compounds and learn to name them according to IUPAC rules. ($30 lab fee for molecular model kit) Grades 4-8

Creating Games from Scratch: Learn how to program computer games in Scratch, developed at MIT and used to create a wide variety of games, from simple to complex. Grades 3-8

Lego Mindstorms Robotics: Create an auto- nomous robot using motors, gears, and sensors. Program it to complete challenges of increasing complexity. ($10 lab fee) Grades 3-8

Advanced Scratch: Extend your knowledge of programming in Scratch. Advance your skills and create more sophisticated games. (Prerequisite: Creating Games from Scratch) Grades 4-8


Afternoon Program

Grades PreK-5: Locomotion

Rotate with your peer groups to a creative blend of subjects and hands-on activities, such as art, drama, science, history, cooperative games, and outdoor play.

Grades 6-8: Two exciting workshop courses:

Investigate Fields of Science: Immerse yourself in the different challenges of various sciences, such as physics, astronomy, and biology.

The Big Picture: Explore the communication of �big ideas� through discussion leading to sketching, designing, and painting a poster that effectively supports your cause.
