Session I Course Offerings: June 11 - 21

Please note: Students are placed in classes with their age peers, usually with only two or three grade levels per classroom.

Chemistry, Nature, and Wonderment: Ex- periment with chemical concoctions that pop, crackle, ooze, or squish. Explore various eco- systems and the wonder of nature all around. Discover science and nature through hands-on experiments, adventures, and interdisciplinary activities. Grades PK-K

Creative Writing: Could posters, magazines, paintings, films, and books inspire you to write stories and poetry? See your work published in our magazine. Submit your work to competitions. Grades 1-8

Science and Uses of Wood: Study wood char- acteristics and make a "take home" board of 18 samples of different species of wood. Look at a cross section of a tree to study growth rings.Try gluing up two different pieces of plywood made from veneers of wood. Use wood technology to try out the many creative possibilities of wood! Grades 3-8

Musical Theater: Grades 1-2 will perform Circus, Circus and grades 3-5 will perform Annie. Grades 5-8 will perform a review of greatest hits of musical theater, such as Wicked, Fiddler on the Roof, Les Mis�rables -or what musicals interest you? Bring in your ideas! Grades 1-8

Electronics Lab: Explore electronic components and learn basic circuitry while constructing various projects, from sirens to dice to robots! Solder, de- cipher technical instructions, assemble circuit boards, and read schematic diagrams. ($60 lab fee) Grades 4-8

Snap! Crackle! Pop! Mix, swish, and create chemical concoctions that tend to pop, fizz, and sometimes explode as you explore chemistry via hands-on experiments. Grades 1-2

Lego WeDo Robotics: Build robots, such as an alligator, with Legos, motors, gears, and sensors. Program your robots using a computer. ($10 lab fee) Grades 1-4

Podcasting: Welcome to the exciting world of podcasting! Research, write, record, and produce your own podcast using a variety of tools and software. Grades 3-8

Taking Art Outdoors: Sketch and paint outdoors using watercolors, watercolor pencils, tempera paints, and oil pastels. Follow in the footsteps of the Impressionists and experiment with techniques for capturing light. Grades 1-8

Underground Railroad: Before Abraham Lincoln�s Presidency, the many people who were slaves in the southern U.S. dreamed of a better life. Learn about the secret codes they used to escape to freedom and how these became integral to the Civil War. Explore these and other secrets of the past through quilting, storytelling, writing, and bios of key persons. Grades 4-8

Trial by Jury: Discover and understand the workings of our justice system. Take on the role of judge, juror, lawyer, plaintiff, defendant, bailiff, or witness. Gain knowledge from an attorney. Work with your peers to create and stage courtroom dramas. Grades 3-8

Math Games and Strategies: Analyze a variety of games to discover new mathematical insights and to gain winning strategies and learn how to apply them. Grades 1-5

Eclectic Science Lab: Explore different fields of science! Investigate physics, biology, chemistry, astronomy, and the environment through hands- on experiments and activities. Grades 3-8


Afternoon Program

Grades PreK-5: Locomotion

Rotate with your peer groups to a creative blend of subjects and hands-on activities, such as art, drama, science, history, cooperative games, and outdoor play.

Grades 6-8: Two exciting workshop courses:

Chemistry: Explore chemical properties via hands-on experiments. Concoct intriguing solutions and create explosive reactions.

Digital Photography: Discover the art of photography. Use photo-editing software to manipulate images with an artistic slant.
