Program Structure

Project 2012 is an innovative program, designed for bright learners who welcome dynamic opportunities to explore diverse subjects in a challenging, inspiring environment! Project 2012 meets on weekdays for three weeks. Students may enroll in either the Morning or the Full-Day Program. The development of problem- solving skills, creativity, and critical thinking is inherent in the framework for all courses. Projects and activities evoke active, hands-on participation.

Morning Program:

For all students, mornings consist of two classes, chosen by the students themselves from a variety of exciting topics. One-half hour is reserved on several mornings for Colloquium, an informal gathering of the Project students and faculty.

Full-Day Program:

The afternoon component of the Full-Day Program provides in-depth, hands-on exploration of a single theme of the student's choice. Prior to their afternoon quests, students enjoy lunch. They bring their own sack lunches, including drinks, that do not require refrigeration.

Eligibility, Application and Placement

Talented, motivated young people entering grades 6 - 12 in the fall of 2012, from any city or edu cational setting, whether public, private, parochial, or home school, are eligible. They need not be enrolled in school gifted programs. Test scores are requested, but are not the sole criterion. En rollees generally rank at or above the 95th percentile in some areas.

Returning students are eligible upon our timely receipt of their applications.

New students must submit a letter of recommendation from an educator, addressing the student's academic, intellectual and/or creative talent and performance. The letter may be submitted with the application or separately.

We sensitively consider exceptions. Parents may request a conference with the Director regarding their child's particular circumstances.

Applications are accepted online, by mail, and in person. For fast and secure submission, please consider applying online at www.centerforgifted.org. To apply by mail, complete the application herein (or print one from our website) and send it with the $150 deposit to: The Center for Gifted, Box 364, Wilmette, IL 60091. Enrollment is open until Project 2012 begins.

Parents are notified of enrollment status when we have their complete applications. For new students, this includes the letter of recommendation, which may be sent separately.

Students are placed in classes on a rolling basis, per dates of their applications. Before the program begins, they receive their individual class assignments, maps, directions, and other information.
