Students enjoy three classes every morning, chosen from the following:
Going Very Green! Create a compost system
to enrich the soil in your own garden at home. . .
while using red wiggler worms! Plant an already
grown flower plant, learn about decomposition,
recycle leftovers to create a renewable resource,
and befriend some wiggly characters. This class
will foster your love for the environment and
allow you plenty of time outside, all while getting
your hands good and dirty! Grades 1-8
Combustion and Pyrotechnics: Investigate
physical forces and chemical combinations that
tend to flare, fizzle, spark, and occasionally
explode. Grades 4-8
Drawing from Inside Out and Upside Down: How do you draw what you see? Train your
eyes to perceive accurately shapes, relationships, perspectives, and value shading. Grades 1-8
LEGO Robotics I: Engineer and program
Mindstorms robots to solve challenges using
gears, motors, sensors, and computers.
($10 lab fee) Grades 3-8
LEGO Robotics II: Work with other advanced
students to strategize, design, program, and
race your robots. ($10 lab fee) Grades 4-8
Creative Writing: Could posters, paintings,
poetry? Be published in our magazine. Grades 1-8
Theater Club: Experience the exhilarating world
of live theater! Develop different characters as
you play theater games, rehearse skits, and
perform for family and friends. Grades 1-8
Creating Games from Scratch: Learn how to
program computer games in Scratch, developed
at MIT and used to create a wide variety of
simple to complex games. Grades 3-8
Bubble-Ology: Explore the principles of air,
density, and surface tension. Concoct solutions
and experiment with their bubble-making
effectiveness. Will you create the biggest,
longest lasting, or craziest shaped bubble? Grades 1-4
The Art of Math: Explore geometric designs,
patterns, and tessellations. Construct models
with straws, strings, paper, toothpicks, and
marshmallows. Create your own 2-D and 3-D
mathematical masterpieces! Grades 1-2
Geometric Design and Construction: Create
Escherian designs and kaleidoscopic visuals.
Explore symmetry, transformations, and
compass constructions. Develop geometric
intuition through hands-on exploration. Grades 3-8
