Program Structure
Each Session of Summer Wonders meets on weekdays for about two weeks. The Morning Program meets on Monday-Thursday and the Full-Day Program, Monday-Friday. Students may choose to attend mornings only, or stay all day. Enroll in one, two, or all three Sessions. Each is distinct! Session I: Mornings - June 20 to 23 and 27 to 30; Full Day - June 20 to July 1. Session II: Mornings - July 5 to 7 and 11 to 14; Full Day - July 5 to 8 and 11 to 15; Session III: Mornings - July 18 to 21 and 25 to 28; Full Day - July 18 to 29.
Morning Program: Monday-Thursday
For most students, mornings consist of three classes, chosen by the students themselves from a variety of exciting topics. For very young students, we have selected courses and themes to be explored in interdisciplinary settings, through literature, art, science, drama, math, and movement. The development of problem-solving skills and creativity is inherent in the framework for all courses offered. Projects and activities evoke active, hands-on participation.
Full-Day Program: Monday-Friday
For students who prefer an all-day experience, we offer an indoor/outdoor afternoon component consistent with the approach to gifted education advocated by The Center for Gifted. After the Morning Program and lunch with their peers, students enjoy hands-on discovery through a creative blend of activities, such as art, drama, science, history, computers, cooperative games and outdoor play. Every Friday, Full-Day students embark on field trips. Each Session, one field trip will be of an educational nature, and the other, to a water park. Students bring their own lunches, including drinks.
Extended Care
Organized supervision and nurturing care is available Monday-Friday, mornings (7:00 - 9:00) and late afternoons (3:00 - 6:00) for students enrolled. The $6/hour fee is payable daily, as incurred.
Application Procedures
Applications are accepted online (beginning March 1), by mail, and in person. To apply by mail, download the Application for Admission. There are no application deadlines. Although enrollment for each Session remains open until it begins, we recommend that you apply as early as possible.
Parents are notified of enrollment status when we receive their complete applications. For students who are new to our programs, "complete" includes the required Teacher Recommendation. Email notifications of acceptance and enrollment information are sent to parents from [email protected]. Parents will need to add this to their email address books to ensure their receipt of this information.
Payments / Fees / Refunds / Financial Aid
A deposit of $60 per two-week Session is required and must accompany application. It will be credited to tuition. The balance of tuition for each Session is due in full exactly two weeks before it begins. See individual Session sections for tuition amounts. Applications sent three weeks or less before program start dates must include full tuition.
We accept payments by cash, by check or money order payable to The Center for Gifted, and by credit and debit cards. Online payers also may use e-checks. The $60 deposit represents the application fee and is non-refundable, unless student admission is denied. The balance of tuition paid is refunded only for students who withdraw before their Session begins. Lab fees (see course descriptions) are not incurred until classes are assigned and will be payable on or before the first day of classes.
There are no credits or refunds for withdrawing or enrolling after a Session begins, or for absences or partial enrollments for any reason. There are no discounts for siblings or for enrolling in multiple programs. Partial scholarships are available. Please contact us to apply.
Parent Seminars
Educating parents about gifted education is inherent in the purpose and value of Summer Wonders. At all three Sessions, we shall offer seminars designed specifically for parents of gifted children. Details will be emailed to all families enrolled. Please join us!
