Explore the USA: Traverse the United States, discovering the wonders of its mountains, forests, and plains; its Great Lakes, sea coasts, deserts, and swamps; its people, cultures, and history. Explore the states through creative, interdisciplinary activities involving math, science, literature, art, drama, and cooking!

1st - 6th Grade Courses (as indicated)

Creative Writing: Could posters, paintings, films, and books inspire you to write stories and poetry? Be published in our magazine. Grades 2-6
Math All Around: How do we use math? When? Where? Discover real world math through creative, hands-on activities. Grades 1-4
Math Investigations: Where did the four operations come from? Discover the contributions of great mathematicians. Investigate the Fibbonaci Sequence, Pythagorean Theorem, Pascal's Triangle, and more! Grades 5-6
Chocolate-Ology: Discover chocolate, from the humble cocoa bean to the world's favorite culinary delight, via history, mystery, recipes, and taste tests. Grades 1-4
Native Americans: Discover different tribes, where they lived, how they traveled, what they ate, how they communicated, what they wore, and what they did for fun. Grades 1-3
Bridge Design and Construction: With the guidance of an engineer, design bridges and construct models out of balsa wood. What constitutes a sound design? How much weight will your bridges hold? Grades 3-6
Robotics I: Construct a siren as you learn to solder and to decipher technical instructions and diagrams. Build Scooter, a sound-activated robot. ($40 lab fee) Grades 4-6
Robotics II: Build Scrambler, an all-terrain robot; Blinky, with an infrared tracking beam; Copycat, programmable for direction, light, and sound; or Digital Dice. ($60 lab fee) Grades 5-6
Harry Potter-Ology: Conduct wizard research, be sorted into a house, play Quiddich, cast spells, create charms, and concoct strange brews, potions, and wizard candy! Grades 3-6
Goo, Gak, Slime: Discover hands-on chemistry as you explore slippery substances and mushy stuff via elbow-deep, sometimes silly, but extremely scientific projects and experiments. Grades 1-2
Computer Games Lab I: Explore different design options as you create your own computer games. Grades 3-6
Computer Games Lab II: Have you taken Computer Games Lab I? Then join this advanced class to create more sophisticated games. Grades 4-6
Art Time Machine: Travel through time to discover the distinctive styles and methods of famous artists. Experiment with their techniques in your own masterpieces. Grades 1-6
Making Visible the Invisible: How do mimes make you "see" the invisible? Learn mime techniques and performance from a professional! Grades 1-6

Strange, Sturdy Sculpture: Have you gazed at a sculpture and wondered how it was made? Have you tried to test the limits of gravity and balance? Explore sculpture making through a variety of media and assemblage processes. Grades 1-6
Computer Games Lab I: Explore different design options as you create your own computer games. Grades 3-6
Computer Games Lab II: Have you taken Computer Games Lab I? Then join this advanced class to create more sophisticated games. Grades 3-6
LEGO Robotics I: Engineer and program robots to solve challenges using gears, motors, sensors, and computers. ($10 lab fee) Grades 3-6
LEGO Robotics II: Work with other advanced students to strategize, design, program, and race your robots. ($10 lab fee) Grades 4-6
Ancient Rome: Discover Roman architecture, aqueducts, and art. Explore parallels between Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. Investigate Roman philosophy, government, and the Pax Romana, all through creative, hands-on activities. Grades 1-6
Math Games and Puzzles: Tackle tangram tricks, ponder logic puzzles, play math games, and solve sequencing secrets! Grades 1-2

Journalism-Digital Edition: What is the latest scoop in your classes? Or in your neighborhood? Learn skills of journalistic writing from a professional and submit your stories for publication to relevant online local editions of newspapers. Grades 4-6
Computer Multimedia Lab: Explore the various aspects of multimedia. Create your own scenes with graphics, text, audio, and video. Grades 3-6
The Art of Math: Investigate geometric patterns and puzzles. Create and construct your own models with stuff like straws, string, paper, toothpicks, and marshmallows. Grades 1-2
3-D Math: Improve your spatial imagination as you build 3-dimensional polyhedra, from the humble tetrahedron to the great rhombicosidodecahedron. Experiment with truncating and stellating. Grades 3-6
