Explore the USA: Traverse the United States, discovering its mountains, forests, and plains; its Great Lakes, sea coasts, deserts, and swamps; its people, cultures, and history. Explore the states through creative, interdisciplinary activities involving math, science, literature, art, drama, and cooking!

1st - 8th Grade Courses (as indicated)

Creative Writing: Could posters, paintings, films, and books inspire you to write stories and poetry? Be published in our magazine. Grades 2-8
Math Meets Literature: Discover mathematical concepts in beautifully illustrated picture books. Investigate them through hands-on activities in a creative, interdisciplinary approach to math. Grades 1-2
Math Puzzles and Strategies: Investigate logic-based problem solving. Tackle challenging and intriguing puzzles from math competitions. Equip yourself with useful strategies. Grades 3-8
Edible Chemistry: Discover hands-on chemistry as you explore tasty substances and fizzy stuff via elbow-deep, sometimes silly, but extremely scientific projects and experiments. Grades 1-2
Strange Brews: Mix and swish your own weird chemical concoctions. Test for potency, smoothness, solubility, and stickiness. Watch for unexpected reactions! Grades 3-4
Combustion and Pyrotechnics: Investigate physical forces and chemical combinations that tend to flare, fizzle, spark, and occasionally explode. Grades 5-8
Computer Lab I: Design your own computer game. Use interactive animation and hyper-links, coupled with slide transitions, effects, and timing. Play your game creation on any computer. Grades 3-8
Computer Lab II: Advance your programming skills and design a more sophisticated game. (Prerequisite: Computer Lab I) Grades 4-8
Chess Club I: Investigate basic moves, openings, end games, and strategies. All chess enthusiasts welcome! Grades 1-6
Chess Club II: Hone your skills and sharpen your strategic thinking through exploring advanced openings, end games, and strategies. Experienced players only! Grades 3-6
LEGO Robotics I: Engineer and program robots to solve challenges using gears, motors, sensors, and computers. ($10 lab fee) Grades 3-8
LEGO Robotics II: Work with other advanced students to strategize, design, program, and race your robots. ($10 lab fee) Grades 4-8
Robotics I: Construct a siren as you learn to solder and to decipher technical instructions and diagrams. Build Scooter, a sound-activated robot. ($40 lab fee) Grades 4-8
Robotics II: Build Scrambler, an all-terrain robot; Blinky, with an infrared tracking beam; Copycat, programmable for direction, light, and sound; or Digital Dice. ($60 lab fee) Grades 4-8
Mandarin Chinese: Explore Chinese language, culture, and cuisine through creative, hands-on activities. Grades 1-8
Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans: Explore the intriguing ancient civilizations of South America through hands-on activities. Design Aztec battle uniforms, prepare tasty Inca dishes, and write number glyphs using Mayan codes. Grades 3-8
Strange, Sturdy Sculpture: Have you gazed at a sculpture and wondered how it was made? Have you tried to test the limits of gravity and balance? Explore sculpture making through a variety of media and assemblage processes. Grades 1-8
Musical Theater: Grades 1-2 will perform Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; grades 3-4, The Wiz, and grades 5-8, Little Shop of Horrors. Grades 1-8
