Reasons to consider IQ testing for your child:
I need more information about my child.
An IQ test can answer not only whether or not a child is gifted, but at what level. An IQ renders four sub-scale scores which can reveal learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses, and how the child manifests these as a learner and in school. Increasing your knowledge about your child in this way can steer you toward better choices and optimal learning experiences.
What's the best school for my child?
All psycho-educational assessments conducted atThe Center for Gifted include a discussion of appropriate school options--public,independent and parochial.
Should I be considering grade acceleration for my child?
Grade acceleration evaluations by schools require IQ testing. Gifted children can benefit from grade acceleration, especially if they have an autumn birthday.
What kind of extra support would benefit my child?
Some children excel in certain areas and struggle in others (e.g., timed tests, organizational skills, etc.). An IQ test is the first step in identifying "twice exceptionalities."
What type of memberships would benefit my child?
Memberships in MENSA (IQ of 130or higher) or the Davidson Institute (IQ of 145 or higher) are partly based on IQ test scores. Memberships such as these can bring access to new communities of gifted learners and are impressive resume builders.
